MYP Mathematics: When Love and Hate Collide

Real-life context project-based materials are essential in the MYP Mathematics program. Such projects provide students with the skills necessary for the internal assessment in the Diploma Program and beyond school. Students respond positively and are also most engaged when the context is closer to their life experiences.

However, creating meaningful and good quality materials take a lot of time and effort. How can teachers support each other in this endeavour?

During the academic year 2020-2021, some Mathematics teachers from international schools in Germany and the Netherlands have collaborated in creating these types of projects. The teacher kit must be ready to use by teachers and contains all the necessary materials and information.

This year, the team’s goals are to convert the materials into online version, test the online packages at participating schools and create a sharing platform for these materials.

The workshop will start with a short introduction of the vision, followed by a hands-on trial of the materials created and a discussion on the feasibility of the sharing platform.
